Why NOVI MEDI PARK is important for the health of the future
How do we create the framework for future healthcare solutions and what does this mean for growth, jobs and talent attraction in North Jutland?
With the establishment of NOVI MEDI PARK and the development of Life Science City, Aalborg is taking an important step towards bringing together research, clinics and industry in a strong ecosystem for healthcare innovation.
We have asked the Chairman of the Regional Council for the North Jutland Region, Mads Duedahl, five questions about the significance of the initiative – from business development and international competition to talent retention and the workplaces of the future.

1. What does it mean to you that we are establishing NOVI MEDI PARK in Aalborg?
I hope that many different companies will settle down. They can get access to test pilot projects at our hospital and can function as a business cluster. We know that this creates more innovation and has a knock-on effect on creating jobs and growth. It can also help support our vision of being a frontrunner in artificial intelligence.
2. What significance does it have for Aalborg that we are now establishing Life Science City as a unified beacon for healthcare innovation?
We must show the world that here in North Jutland we are working on the cutting edge of solutions for the healthcare system of the future. Denmark does not occupy much space in the grand scheme of things, but together with the other centers in the country, we can appear as a very attractive partner for large European ventures and global companies.
3. What do you expect the establishment of NOVI MEDI PARK and Life Science City to mean in terms of attracting and retaining talent and creating new jobs in Aalborg and North Jutland?
We must work to create synergy between the health technology companies and a strong labor market around health, which can create opportunities for growth and development, as well as attracting more jobs and settlement in the local area. This applies especially to international labor, and we must make the area coherent with neighboring environments, e.g. Sdr. Tranders and the Tårnhøj area.
4. Are there particular types of companies that you hope will find their way to NOVI MEDI PARK and the overall life science environment?
We are interested in both large companies that want to participate in strategic partnerships and small innovative entrepreneurs who can benefit from our strong research skills and get easy access to develop together with the people of North Jutland and the healthcare staff. We already have a strength within digital technologies, which it would be natural to build on.
5. Looking 5-10 years ahead, what role do you hope NOVI MEDI PARK and Life Science City will play in the development of Aalborg as a knowledge and business city?
We hope that MEDI PARK and Life Science City have contributed to attracting both companies, researchers and employees. The area should exude a sense of activity, in an urban space where people can meet informally and create contact across the business community, the clinic and ordinary citizens.
